MONTGOMERY

Montgomery residents are proud of their small, friendly town, their relaxed country lifestyle, and refreshingly clean air. The third oldest city in Texas dating back to 1857, Montgomery is the birthplace of the world famous Texas Lone Star flag. Come visit this small town of 500, stroll down Montgomery's beautiful historic residential area where you will find grand old homes dating back to the 1850's; then shop their antique stores, wine tasting rooms and have a leisurely lunch in one of their fine restaurants. Take a self-guided tour around town and discover the many interesting historical facts and commentaries on Montgomery's interesting past. Montgomery was voted by the readers of The Conroe Courier as the best place in the county to go antique shopping for the years 2001-2003.

The elegant southern lifestyle of the 19th century is alive and evident in two special events. During the Montgomery Trek the city's historic homes and buildings are open for viewing. There are many opportunities for enjoying and purchasing arts and crafts from both visiting vendors and local shops. December brings Christmas in Historic Montgomery, an event that features the Historic Home Tour and the Famous Cookie Walk, where little kids (and grown-up kids) can load up on wonderful homemade cookies and baked goods.

Though Montgomery is developing at a rapid rate, the townspeople are committed to maintaining the flavor of a small, friendly atmosphere, and to this end, they are controlling the development through cooperative and careful planning.

With its proximity to Lake Conroe, Montgomery is also an ideal setting for outdoor recreation. Beautifully landscaped golf courses are found in local area and the Lake provides a multitude of recreational and outdoor activities for weekend visitors, businessmen, and summer vacationers.

In short Montgomery is a perfect blend of outdoor country life and urban advantages. Residents have easy access to recreational, sports, and water activities, world-class performing arts, pro sports, museums, galleries, first-rate shopping, and 5-star restaurants.
